Racial Wealth Gap Simulator
United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania believes the first step to addressing inequities is understanding the underlying factors that have created them in the first place. To help elevate the discussion and build shared understanding of the facts, United Way introduces a highly engaging simulation designed for individuals and groups in our community.
Why volunteer?

Nonclinical volunteering is a valuable experience for premed students because it demonstrates empathy, commitment to service, and a well-rounded perspective on patient care. Engaging in activities like tutoring, working at food banks, or mentoring underserved youth helps develop essential communication and leadership skills while reinforcing a strong sense of social responsibility. Medical schools look for applicants who are not only scientifically competent but also compassionate individuals who understand the broader social determinants of health. By stepping outside of clinical settings, premeds can gain a deeper appreciation for diverse communities and the challenges they face—making them more effective, well-rounded future physicians.
